After a short break, stroll around the city’s major historical sites and sightsee some structures with French colonial architecture. Watch the sunset by the Mekong Riverside and have the evening experience of the lifestyle of the local people.
Overnight in Vientiane.
AM: After breakfast, start to visit the major tourist attractions of Vientiane, including Wat Si Saket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which was home to the famous Emerald Buddha Image.
On the way to the sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. Continue your Laos tour to the ‘Morning Market’ where you can buy numerous antiques, handmade textiles, and gifts.
Have lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the National Museum where you can learn a lot of Laos historical lessons.
Then, board a domestic flight to Luang Prabang – a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage of Laos. Check in and overnight at the hotel in Luang Prabang.
After breakfast, you visit the city’s oldest temple named Wat Visoun, and the shrines of Wat Aham, Wat Sene, Wat Mai, and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, representing classical Laotian architecture.
We then board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of lacquered Buddha statues of various sizes and shapes. Along the way, stop at Ban Xanghai village to enjoy some local rice wine.
On the way back, you stop at the local villages at Ban Xiengmene and Ban Chan to see the royal temple at Wat Longkhoun, which once belonged to a royal family patronage near by Sackarine Caves. Then, take a short drive to Ban Phanom, a village famous for its hand-weaving tradition.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Optionally get up early to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This is a tradition of Laos and a real highlight of your Laos 4 days tour prior to saying goodbye to this charming country.
Following by the breakfast at the hotel before visiting the Royal Palace Museum (closed Tuesday), witnessing a lovely collection of Laos artifacts. After that, you visit the Silver Smith’s and Fine Arts School.
