IDC Travel has just introduced a new tour called Explore Mekong Rivers in Depth, which travels across the vast majority of the Mekong Delta. The trip will take place over the course of nine days and will not only tour the floating markets of Cai Be or Can Tho, but it will also go to other parts of Vietnam along the Mekong River.
Our tour guide and driver will pick you up from Tan Son Nhat, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Airport and take you to your hotel for check-in and relaxation. Your evening will be spent on the beautiful Bui Vien strolling street or the Ben Thanh night market.
Spend your night in Saigon
After breakfast, you will be picked up at your accommodation and taken on a tour to Cao Dai Temple (in Tay Ninh).
The 1926-built Great Holy See Temple is regarded as one of the most impressive monuments in all of Southeast Asia. It is the center of the distinctive Cao Dai sect, a religion that combines elements of Buddhism, Christianity, and Confucianism. Above the door is the sect’s emblem, the all-seeing holy eye. It will be a terrific experience for visitors to join the noon ceremonial spectacle and watch the Daily Mass conducted by Cao Dai believers.
After eating at a restaurant, go to the Cu Chi Tunnels to explore the incredible network of almost 200 kilometers of subterranean tunnels.
Before evening, return to Ho Chi Minh City and see the Reunification Palace.
Overnight in Saigon
In the morning: Our car and tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00AM, drive on Asian Highway No. 1A, pass Go Den, Ben Luc, Tan An (Long An province), a province that is famous for the intangible cultural heritage of humanity “don ca tai tu” (a genre of instrumental and vocal traditional music in southern Vietnam). Arrive at My Tho (Province of Tien Giang), take a little break, and then proceed to Chau Doc. From there, we travel over the My Thuan cable-stayed bridge to Sa Dec (Province of Dong Thap), where we may sample “Nem Vung Lai” and Sa Giang Shrimp Chip.
After a brief ferry ride, we arrive in Long Xuyen (the province of An Giang), then travel to Chau Doc to check into our hotel and enjoy lunch.
Visit the Tra Su cajuput forest in the afternoon, which is recognized not just for its pristine natural beauty but also as a refuge for flora and wildlife. Taking a boat into the forest and bringing oneself into harmony with nature. The awe-inspiring images of cajuputs, the aroma of flowers, and the music-like sounds of birds, insects, and animals will make visitors reluctant to leave. From the observation station, the almost 900-hectare forest, home to many birds and animals, including several rare species, is visible.
Stay the night in An Giang
After breakfast, we depart Chau Doc for Ha Tien (region of Kien Giang), visit the largest market at the Cambodian border, and check into our hotel upon arrival.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit Mui Nai Beach, where we can swim or sip coffee while admiring the nature, and then we’ll ascend Binh San Mountain, see Mac Cuu’s mausoleum, the creator of the region of Ha Tien, as well as Thach Dong Thon Van, Loc Chi Thon Cu, etc.
Overnight in Ha Tien
After breakfast, we check out and head to Hon Chong, where we see the Hang Pagoda and the Phu Tu islet. Proceed to Rach Gia (Kien Giang)
After lunch, we go to Rach Soi, then take Highway 63 to Ca Mau City (Ca Mau province), where we check into our hotel. Explore the city at night on your own
A night spent in Ca Mau
After an early morning checkout and departure to Nam Can by canoe through Cua Lon, Ong Trang, and Rach Tau, guests reach the South Pole of the nation, overlooking Ca Mau, the second-largest mangrove forest in Vietnam.
Afternoon departure from Ca Mau to Bac Lieu City (Bac Lieu Province)
Check into a hotel and unwind. Overnight in Bac Lieu
After breakfast, we go to Bac Lieu Dandy’s residence (now Bac Lieu Hotel). Visit Xiem Can Pagoda, the largest pagoda of the Khmer community and the most splendid pagoda in the South, followed by the Buddha Temple Ba Nam Hai next to the beach and the grave of Cao Van Lau, a talented musician who brought the “Da co hoai lang” – the song of the king of the old tone – to Bac Lieu.
On the drive to Soc Trang in the afternoon, we will stop at Chen Kieu Temple, a Khmer-style pagoda in the Mekong Delta. Arriving at Soc Trang, we visit the Doi Pagoda, also known as the Clay Pagoda.
Continue to Can Tho and settle into your hotel to unwind
Stay the night in Can Tho
In the morning: We go on a boat excursion in the wee hours of the morning to see the lively Cai Rang floating market and a town specialized in the production of rice noodles.
On our journey back to Saigon, we stop at the Southern Truc Lam Monastery, the region’s biggest and most picturesque monastery.
Staying over in Saigon
If time allows, have breakfast and some excursions or shopping before being transported to the airport for your onward trip.
