Once you’ve settled into your hotel, you can spend the day as you please. Relax or perhaps explore your surroundings on a tuk-tuk, Southeast Asia’s iconic three-wheeled auto-rickshaw.
For dinner, try out local street food at a night market or immerse yourself in the city’s cosmopolitan culinary scene at a fancy restaurant. From classic Thai cuisine to global dishes, there’s something for everyone. You can also head to Asiatique The Riverfront, a bustling waterfront shopping mall with numerous restaurants and a giant observation wheel, Asiatique Sky.

After breakfast at the hotel, take a full-day guided tour of some of Bangkok’s most interesting water and land sights. Board a long-tail boat and cruise down the bustling Chao Phraya River, with views of the Bangkok skyline along the way, before leaving the bustling river and entering the klongs (canals). Discover the waterside temple Wat Khun Chan, known for its large statue of Buddha seated on carved elephants. Then stop at an artists’ village, where you can explore vintage wooden walkways and a stupa (shrine) covered in jungle vines.
Return to the Chao Phraya River and disembark in the city center. Break for lunch, then head to the Grand Palace. This monumental complex was built in 1782 as the royal complex of the kings of Siam and is the largest and most visited site in Bangkok. Admire the ornate and colorful architecture and enter Thailand’s holiest shrine, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, covered in gold leaf and shimmering gemstones. Take the ferry back across the river and continue to another temple, Wat Pho, whose main attraction is its huge golden statue of the Reclining Buddha. In the morning, head to the airport for your 1-hour flight to Northern Thailand’s cultural capital, Chiang Mai. After settling in, explore the city on your own. Don’t miss Wat Phra Singh, which is the crown jewel of Chiang Mai’s temples thanks to its intricate and classic Lanna architecture. Wat Chedi Luang stands out with its evocative 15th-century stupa.
Hop in the car to watch the sunset at the hillside temple Doi Suthep, where you can climb its iconic 306-step staircase, flanked by carved sea serpents and thick forest, to elaborate grounds with immense golden chedi (stupa) and panoramic views. Today, you will venture on a full-day excursion to the Happy Elephant Home, an ethical sanctuary for elephants that have been saved from tourism. Bring a bathing suit if you want to join them!

During the class, you can learn to understand the philosophy and balance of flavors in Thai cuisine.
After the lesson, it’s time to try all the starters, soups, curries and stir-fries you and your classmates have prepared. Return to the hotel in the middle of the afternoon with a souvenir cookbook. The rest of the day is free to spend as you wish. Stroll through the markets, visit any temples you might have missed, and gulp down more local culinary delights before switching gears and heading to the beaches of Phuket tomorrow.
