For travelling around Vietnam, besides renting a car via our rental services, visitors can try another experience like using public vehicle. Railways in Vietnam are quite classic, quite different from railways that you often use in Europe or USA. Therefore, this experience is worthy to gain.
For some of the main, lengthy routes in Vietnam, such as Hanoi to Sapa to Hanoi, Hanoi to Hue or Da Nang, Hanoi to Saigon, Saigon to Danang, Hue, you can take a night train to save time and money.
The state-owned company in charge of running Vietnam’s railway network is called Vietnam Railways (Tổng Công ty Đường sắt Việt Nam).
Between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the single-track, 1,600 km (990 mi) route runs north to south. During the French colonial era in the 1880s, this was constructed using the meter gauge (narrow-gauge railroads with a track gauge of 1,000 mm). In addition, there are some mixed gauge lines in and around Hanoi as well as standard gauge (railways with a track gauge of 1,435 mm) lines that run from Hanoi to China.
