Like almost all Southeast Asian countries, Myanmar has a tropical monsoon climate. This means that it is subject to strong monsoon influences and receives a lot of rain. Although it receives a lot of sunlight, the high humidity can sometimes make it uncomfortable. Year-round, the average annual temperature is between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius (72 and 81 degrees Fahrenheit). In order to enjoy all the beauty of Myanmar during your family tours, it is best to visit this beautiful country during the dry season (October to May).
However, Myanmar still has plenty to offer throughout the year, depending on the location. For example, it rains very heavily in September, which makes beach holidays in Ngapali impossible, but this is the best time to access some of the most scenic parts of Myanmar along the Chinwind River.
Admire the sun rising over the 2000 temples of Bagan: An extraordinary experience that you can find nowhere else in the world. Plan to arrive around six o’clock in the morning to see the stupas bathed in the soft light of the first colors of the day and the dozens of hot air balloons rising in the sky. Obviously, it’s even better if you manage to find a good spot to be alone, or almost, in front of this marvel! The roof of a number of pagodas is accessible and provides the perfect vantage point. After sunrise, take the opportunity to visit some temples, not necessarily the best known, to enjoy being almost alone there.
Take the train crossing splendid landscapes to get to Inle Lake (from Kalaw to Inle/Shwe Nyaung): The train moves very slowly (about 4.5 hours for less than 50 kilometers), crossing very beautiful landscapes, such as rice fields, luxuriant vegetation, hills, and a whole palette of colors that can be admired at any time! It is always an interesting experience for children during your family trip to Myanmar (Burma) to take a local train, stop in small stations, see the street vendors, etc.
Bathe in the translucent water of a natural pool, near the Kaw Ka Thaung (Pa Han) cave: A place frequented exclusively by locals, with plenty of small restaurants nearby. In Pa Han, of course, you cannot miss the “bat cave” either, with millions of bats coming out every evening at sunset!
Take a boat trip on the Irrawaddy River (Bagan) at sunset: An unforgettable moment to contemplate the sunset while having an aperitif on a pretty wooden boat.
