Mekong Delta Tour In Depth 5 Days

To start the 5-day Mekong Delta tour, our guide and car will pick you up at your hotel for your transfer to Ben Tre, a beautiful region of the Mekong Delta, famous for its manufacture of coconut candies. Arrival at Hung Vuong pier, you will take a boat trip on the Ben Tre river to discover local daily life. You will continue your canal trip to Nhon Thanh village. You will have a chance to taste the fresh fruits then ride a bike (or tuk tuk) on a path through the villages and admire the landscapes of coconut palms, rice fields and vegetable gardens.

Lunch with elephant ears fish will be served in the village. A short walk will allow you to discover the local life in depth. This is followed by a boat trip on the small canal shaded by wild palm trees. If you want to ride a bike, you can ride through the rice fields and meet the locals.

Return to the village, where you will spend a night with the locals. In the afternoon, you can participate in the preparation of dinner with the host.

In the second day of Mekong Delta tour, you will have breakfast at homestay and enjoy a bike ride (about 1-1.5 hrs) on the way from Dong Hoa to Tam Binh, passing through the gardens of durian, sapota and longan. You can meet with the locals then visit the local village market. After that, you will return home to rest. (Extension: 1-hour walk along the trail with a local and reach the island of Ngu Hiep by bike where the alluvial deposits of the Mekong have formed a fertile garden. These are unusual excursions in a lush and authentic place). If you don’t want to ride a bike, ask our guide for a motorbike and a driver.

Transfer to Long Xuyen through Sa Dec, where you will visit the Kien An Cung Pagoda, then the house of Huynh Thuy Le, described in the novel by Marguerite Duras “The Lover”. You will discover the local market in Sa Dec which is rich in fruits, vegetables and fish. Continue driving to Long Xuyen to visit Cao Dai Temple and Crocodile Farm on the path.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the floating market and the lively and authentic village of Long Xuyen on a small tributary of the Mekong Delta. You will discover the daily activities of local residents. Then you will take a short walk (or 1 hour by bike) on the island of Cu Lao Ong Ho. Take the road to Chau Doc. Upon your arrival, you will visit the Chau Doc market and enjoy a boat trip towards the floating fishing village and Cham Island village.

You will continue to discover Sam Mountain (287 m) with its colorful temples and pagodas (Ba Chua Xu Temple, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, Tay An Pagoda). You can walk to the top of the mountain or take a moto-taxi to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the border between Vietnam and Cambodia.

In the fourth day of Mekong Delta itinerary, you will have breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the Tra Su Reserve, an exceptional biodiversity ecosystem with a typical cajeput forest. It is also a famous bird park, known for a variety of species. You will continue your trip to Ha Tien along the border road between Vietnam and Cambodia. Arriving at a small beach in Kien Giang, stop to visit Hang Pagoda and the ancient fairy rocks which are a symbol of Ha Tien, named “Phu Tu” (father and son). Unfortunately, father’s rock fell into the sea a few years ago.

Tra Su Cajeput Forest

Continuation to Ha Tien and installation at your hotel. If time permits, you can visit the Mac Cuu Temple dedicated to a governor of the region in the 18th century, then the Thanh Van Cave.

After breakfast, you will return to Saigon. Along the way, you can stop to take photos if you wish. Arrival in Saigon at the end of the afternoon.
